I've always wanted to be a farmer. In 2003, I took over my parents' farming business and immediately began preparing to join the Peter's Farm family. We built new stalls that were completed in April 2004.
Besides farming, I also work as an industrial electrical engineer. In addition, we have some sheep, dairy cows, starting cattle and bulls. The fact I am able to combine all these activities is thanks in part to the way the Peter’s Farm system is supported with modern IT. Calves are fed milk via an automated system. It is less resource intensive and enables individualised care. Each calf has a chip that registers various data, from drinking speed to how much a calf drinks in a feeding session.
Fortunately, I am receiving start up support from my brother and the community. I am a young farmer looking to establish myself. My wish list still includes the acquisition of a new silo and weeder. In addition, I am considering how I can install hot water tanks. To me, that is a logical measure. Sustainability is an integral part of the Peter’s Farm ethos.
